India prepares ₹12,000 crore incentive plan to build domestic supply chain for advanced battery components

India is preparing to approve an incentive scheme worth about ₹12,000 crore to support domestic manufacturing of advanced battery components, including cathode and anode active materials, electrolysers and copper foil separators. The country currently relies entirely on imports for these inputs, with China controlling as much as 80% of global copper foil capacity. The programme is designed to back an estimated 223 GWh of battery capacity by 2030, which would require more than 400 thousand tonnes of copper foil and strengthen structural industrial demand for copper.
