Solana to Raise Mainnet Block Compute Limit 66% to 100M CUs at Epoch 1009

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Solana will raise its per-block compute limit from 60M to 100M CUs at Epoch 1009, expanding throughput and enabling more complex smart-contract execution. The rapid succession of compute increases highlights strong demand for block capacity, but raises near-term operational risk: higher resource requirements could stress lower-end validators, potentially worsening skip times or block production reliability. Market focus will be on validator performance and transaction success rates post-activation.

Solana is set to expand mainnet capacity by lifting its per-block compute ceiling from 60 million to 100 million Compute Units (CUs), a 66% increase scheduled to activate within 24 hours at the start of Epoch 1009. Compute Units function as each block's processing budget. A higher limit allows more transactions and heavier smart-contract workloads to be packed into a single block, supporting greater overall throughput. This marks Solana's second compute increase in less than a week. SIMD0256, which moved the network from the long-standing 50 million CU cap to 60 million, went live on July 23, 2025. The new proposal, SIMD0286, takes the limit to 100 million. SIMD0286 was authored in May 2025 by Lucas Bruder of Jito Labs. Jito is a major infrastructure provider in the Solana ecosystem, widely known for its MEV-focused validator client. The change applies only to the Maximum Block Units parameter. Max Writable Account Units remains at 12 million, and Max Vote Units stays at 36 million. The added headroom comes with operational risk. Larger blocks require more resources to execute and validate, which could lengthen processing time for validators on lower-end hardware and test Solana's fast block production. Investors will be watching execution quality after activation. Any validator instability, block production disruptions, or renewed centralization pressure would be a negative signal. Key indicators in the 48–72 hours after Epoch 1009 begins include skip time, block production rates, and transaction success rates.
