Ethereum core developers have placed EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions) on the roadmap for the 2027 Hegotá upgrade. During the Aug. 27 core developer call, the proposal was labeled "Scheduled for Inclusion," signaling it is planned to ship with the network upgrade rather than remain a tentative candidate. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, one of the proposal's ten authors, wrote on X on Sunday night that Frames have advanced significantly in recent months. Frames are designed to address a common friction point: users may hold stablecoins but be unable to transact because they lack ETH for gas. The approach breaks a transaction into separate phases—authorization, fee payment, and instruction execution—so the sender and the fee payer can be different accounts. In practice, a payments app could sponsor fees directly, or charge users in stablecoins and settle the corresponding ETH gas costs on their behalf. The network would still price gas in ETH, but end users would no longer need to buy ETH just to send transactions. Unlike existing wallet workarounds that depend on third-party services, Frames aim to provide this capability through standard Ethereum transaction flows. The design also supports atomic bundling of steps that must succeed together, such as token-transfer authorization and submission; if execution fails, the authorization is revoked. Frames further allow accounts to set custom approval rules, enabling features such as key rotation or adoption of quantum-resistant keys without requiring users to move funds to a new address. The specification remains in draft form and may change ahead of the Hegotá upgrade. Frames are not yet available for users today.

Strive Inc. plans to purchase an additional 1,100 Bitcoin, CEO Matt Cole said ahead of a scheduled transaction on September 8. The move extends the company's rapid accumulation strategy that has turned the Nasdaq-listed firm into one of the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holders. Strive said the purchase will be financed through sales of its SATA preferred stock, a structure the company has used to expand its Bitcoin treasury without taking on debt. As of late August, Strive held 23,156 BTC, making it the fifth-largest Bitcoin holder among publicly traded companies. The company's buying pace has accelerated sharply. Strive held about 5,000 BTC in fall 2025; in less than a year, the figure has more than quadrupled. August was particularly active, with more than 3,000 BTC added across multiple transactions, including 1,110 BTC at an average price of about $73,409 per coin and another 1,800 BTC at roughly $79,431. Once completed, the planned 1,100 BTC purchase would lift total holdings above 24,000 BTC. That level would move the company further past Cole's previously stated ambition of reaching 20,000 BTC by year-end 2026, a target that has already been exceeded. Cole has also alluded on social media to additional potential acquisitions that could take holdings well beyond the original goal, without specifying an updated target. Strive's strategy centers on equity-funded purchases. Trading under the ticker ASST on Nasdaq, the company raises capital by issuing ASST common shares and SATA preferred stock, then deploys proceeds into Bitcoin. Strive says it operates with a near debt-free balance sheet and keeps sufficient cash reserves to meet dividend obligations tied to the preferred shares. Under the structure, SATA holders receive dividends supported by cash reserves, while common shareholders gain exposure to Bitcoin. Cole has also referenced metrics such as BTC yield and amplification ratios to describe how efficiently equity issuance translates into per-share Bitcoin accumulation.

CoinDesk reports that Blockstream's Bitcoin sidechain Liquid has been effectively suspended since Sunday, with bridge nodes shut down after an incident involving roughly 4,000 BTC. Based on the price referenced in the report, the amount is valued at about $320 million. The outflow came from the federation wallet that backs circulating LBTC (Liquid Bitcoin). Liquid and federation member SideSwap said a customer sent 4,000 LBTC to SideSwap at 14:05 UTC. The tokens were then burned with valid authorization, and about 23 minutes later the federation wallet paid out approximately 3,996 BTC via the standard redemption (peg-out) process. Liquid said the funds exited through SideSwap's peg-out authorization key, adding that neither that key nor any other federation keys were compromised. SideSwap likewise said its systems were not breached and pointed to a vulnerability in Elements, the software underpinning Liquid. Blockstream has not publicly disclosed the specific flaw, though Liquid's underlying software reportedly received a relevant fix about five weeks ago. Based on details disclosed so far, the report says no bitcoin was forcibly taken from wallets. Instead, LBTC lacking full bitcoin backing was allegedly created and then redeemed for BTC through what appeared to be a legitimate process. The federation wallet balance has fallen to about 200 BTC from roughly 4,200 BTC before the event, leaving around 5% of the prior level. Blockstream reportedly replied via the email address posted on-chain, and the two sides allegedly continued communicating using PGP-signed messages embedded in Bitcoin transactions. Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet questioned the "white hat" characterization, arguing that legitimate white hats would not drain bridge funds first and then request on-chain contact. He also said some self-described white hats have recently refused to return funds until vulnerabilities are patched. Other Liquid assets not affected Information released so far suggests other assets on Liquid, including USDT, DePix and tokenized real-world assets, were not impacted. The Bitcoin mainnet is also unaffected, indicating the disruption is concentrated in Liquid's bridging and asset-mapping mechanisms rather than the Bitcoin network itself.

Bitcoin hovered near $79,500 on Monday, holding close to the $80,000 mark as traders revived expectations of a Federal Reserve rate increase. The cryptocurrency briefly topped $82,000 last week before easing back. U.S. labor data reset rate expectations: the economy added 162,000 jobs in August versus forecasts of 55,000, while the unemployment rate stayed at 4.1%. Following the report, the implied probability of a 25-basis-point hike at the Fed’s Sept. 16 meeting rose to about 60%. Treasury yields and the U.S. dollar moved higher, weighing on bitcoin and other rate-sensitive assets. LMAX Group market strategist Joel Kruger said bitcoin’s post-August rally left momentum in overbought territory, adding that higher Treasury yields and firmer oil prices were additional headwinds. Flows into U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs remained supportive, with $987 million in net inflows last week, extending gains in weekly inflows to three consecutive weeks. QCP Capital said daily flow swings reflected traders adjusting exposure and waiting for clearer signals ahead of key U.S. data releases. The firm flagged near-term resistance at $80,000"$82,000 and support at $77,000"$78,000. On-chain indicators also improved. CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler Jr. said the 30-day change in realized capitalization turned positive on Aug. 24 after 87 days in negative territory, reaching 0.88% by Sept. 6. ME News reported on Sept. 7 (UTC+8) that DWF Labs said combined net inflows into BTC and ETH ETFs totaled about $1.2 billion last week, extending a run of three consecutive weeks above $1 billion for the first time since July 2025. BTC ETFs accounted for roughly $987 million of the total, including $731 million on Sept. 3 alone, the third-highest single-day inflow recorded this year. Assets under management for BTC ETFs climbed to $103.3 billion, equal to about 6.32% of total BTC supply. At the same time, BTC-denominated open interest fell from 762,200 BTC in mid-August to 669,600 BTC, even as BTC rose from around $63,000 to $80,000, suggesting the latest rally has been driven more by spot demand than leverage. The XRP Ledger (XRPL), the blockchain that uses XRP as its native token, has pushed its stablecoin market capitalization above $1 billion, extending a strong month-long run. Data from RWA.xyz shows XRPL's stablecoin market cap reached $1.09 billion on September 7. That marks a 21.40% gain over the past 30 days from roughly $898 million. The number of stablecoin holders on the network also climbed sharply, rising 33.61% over the same period to 80,690 at the time of publication. Stablecoin transfer activity followed suit, with 30-day transfer volume increasing 23.87% to $5.28 billion. Ripple USD (RLUSD) and Braza USDB (USDB) remain the two largest stablecoins on XRPL, with market caps of $1,028,940,435 and $25,961,065, respectively. Network activity has picked up alongside the growth in stablecoin usage. CryptoQuant data shows the 30-day simple moving average (SMA) of active addresses rebounded from 14,247 on August 3, 2026, to about 16,960 at the time of reporting, translating to a 19.04% increase over the past 30 days. XRP has also strengthened during the period of rising on-chain activity. While the token is down more than 24% year-to-date, it has gained over 34% in the last 30 days and was trading at $1.40 at the time of publication.
