BitMEX to Shut Down; Bubblemaps Says 75% of BMEX Never Distributed On-Chain as Token Slides 95%

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
BitMEX's announced closure and a reported 95% collapse in BMEX, alongside Bubblemaps' claims that 75% of intended allocations were never distributed onchain, raise acute counterparty, governance, and transparency concerns. While the direct impact is concentrated in BMEX, the episode can weigh on broader crypto risk sentiment by highlighting tokenomics execution risk and exchange-linked token fragility, potentially widening risk premia in the near term.

Blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps said BMEX plunged 95% after BitMEX announced plans to close. Bubblemaps highlighted gaps between BitMEX's published tokenomics and on-chain distribution. Under the model, 75% of BMEX was earmarked for employee incentives, ecosystem development and long-term reserves, but those tokens were never distributed on-chain. In 2021, about 92% of the BMEX supply was locked in vesting contracts. The remaining 8% was released at launch, including 5% allocated to airdrops and 3% set aside for product support and liquidity. Each allocation bucket was tied to separate addresses intended to receive tokens as they unlock.
