Bitcoin (BTC), after sliding through much of the first half of 2026 and moving largely sideways since June, rallied sharply last week alongside the broader crypto market. The price climbed from about $64,330 to $74,440. The move came after growing bullish chatter in early August, when a number of institutional commentators and analysts active on X suggested a market "bottom" may be in and a new bull cycle could be approaching. The call proved timely: BTC is up 23.23% over the past seven days. At that pace, an investor who put $1,000 into BTC one week ago would be sitting on a $232.30 gain, with the position now valued at $1,232.30. Bitcoin price oneweek chart. The latest surge echoes episodes that marked major inflection points in prior cycles, including Bitcoin's roughly 30% weekly jump that helped signal the end of the 2019 bear market. It also recalls the rapid sentiment reversal during the FTX collapse period, when BTC led the market higher with a near-25% advance over seven days. If momentum persists, some projections point to gains extending into late 2026 and 2027, with new highs widely anticipated to reach at least around $200,000. Even so, the path is unlikely to be smooth. A near-term pullback remains a risk after Bitcoin became heavily overbought, with the relative strength index (RSI) pushing above 80, according to a Finbold report dated August 22. Altcoins join the rebound as crypto market adds $420 billion Bitcoin wasn't the only major asset to rebound as the second half of the month began. Ethereum (ETH) has risen 31.33% over the same week, while XRP surged as much as 49.05% in just a few days. Cryptocurrency market oneweek heatmap.
