Taiko Urges Immediate Bridge Withdrawals Following $2.2 Million Verification Exploit

On June 21, Taiko confirmed a critical compromise in its chain-state verification mechanism, leading to an estimated $2.2 million loss. According to security firm Blockaid, attackers exploited a vulnerability by submitting crafted message proofs that Ethereum Layer 1 accepted as valid, despite the absence of legitimate events on the Taiko source chain. On-chain data from Etherscan recorded a transfer of approximately 649,761 USDC to an exploiter address at 22:07 UTC. In response, the Taiko team has urged users to withdraw funds from all deployed bridges immediately and requested centralized exchanges to suspend TAIKO deposits. Taiko stated that affected users are expected to be reimbursed via the project treasury, though the security assumptions underpinning its bridge infrastructure remain compromised until further notice.
