Bitcoin Whales Move $771M Out of Wintermute Into 40 New Wallets

Lookonchain has tracked 9,458 BTC, worth roughly $771.5 million, leaving Wintermute-linked addresses for 40 newly created wallets since Oct. 1, 2026, as Bitcoin traded under selling pressure near $80,000. The total works out to about $81,571 per coin. On-chain records do not show that the recipients bought the coins: some holders may have acquired their Bitcoin before October, while others may simply have shifted balances into separate wallets. Nor do 40 addresses mean 40 investors. An institution can run several wallets for custody or operational purposes, and trading firms routinely move crypto between accounts to manage inventory, client transactions or collateral. Market commentator Ash Crypto put October's accumulation closer to $780 million in an Oct. 24 post, citing transfers of 306.314 BTC, 307.77 BTC and 364.286 BTC. Several individual moves topped $20 million at the prices shown. He pointed to the activity as evidence that large investors were buying into the market decline. A separate Oct. 24 post from commentator Lucky flagged a daily inflow of 32,380 BTC, worth approximately $2.6 billion, the largest reading since April on Coinglass data, and compared it with an inflow surge that preceded a Bitcoin price peak. Wintermute-linked accounts have also shown up in derivatives reports. In September, Onchain Lens attributed about $126.25 million in Hyperliquid short positions to one linked wallet, including $46.92 million in Ethereum and smaller positions in Solana and HYPE. Market makers use derivatives to hedge holdings or handle customer trades, so a short position reveals nothing about the overall exposure of a firm, just as a transfer out of a trading address reveals nothing about whether the recipient will hold or sell. Elsewhere, Crypto Rover urged Bitcoin buyers to watch the bull market support band in his latest price outlook, while analyst Ali Martinez has identified a four-hour close above $84,000 as the condition for a possible move toward $93,000.
