Ambuja Cements Q1 net profit drops 37% as volumes fall and costs rise; shares slip 2%
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Ambuja Cements reported a ~37% YoY drop in Q1 profit as volumes weakened and fuel/freight costs rose amid West Asia geopolitical tensions, pushing shares ~2% lower. Management cautioned that peak fuel inflation may overlap with seasonally weaker Q2, potentially pressuring near-term industry margins and limiting pricing power. While operational efficiencies improved sequential costs and EBITDA margin, the headline miss reinforces a cautious tone for cyclical industrial earnings.

Ambuja Cements posted a 37% year-on-year decline in net profit for the first quarter of FY2024, as fuel costs rose amid the Middle East war and cement sales volumes fell to 17.1 million tons from 18.4 million tons a year earlier. The company said peak fuel-cost inflation is set to coincide with a seasonally weaker Q2, which could further weigh on industry profitability in the near term. The stock was down 2% at Rs 421.75 in afternoon trade.
