Tether Froze $4.2 Billion in USDT Linked to Criminal Activity Over Three Years

Tether has frozen approximately $4.2 billion in USDT over the past three years linked to suspicious criminal activities, Cointelegraph reports. Most restrictions began in 2023 amid increased regulatory and law enforcement scrutiny of crypto-related fraud and sanctions evasion. Tether announced on Tuesday it assisted the U.S. Department of Justice in seizing nearly $61 million in USDT tied to "pig butchering" scams, and froze approximately $5.44 billion in cryptocurrency earlier this month at the request of Turkish authorities linked to alleged illegal online gambling and money laundering.
