Ireland was forced to curtail 13.2% of its wind generation in the first half of 2026 because the grid could not carry the output, an amount equivalent to the electricity used by 660,000 homes. Over the same period, wind power integration reached 86.8%. Wind Energy Ireland said the existing network was unable to deliver all wind power to consumers, leaving 15% of the cheapest electricity unused. Grid operator EirGrid said it is upgrading the system with the aim of lifting the share of renewable electricity it can accommodate to 95%.

Irish Continental Group (ICG) said it has accepted a €1.2 billion management-led take-private offer. Shareholders would receive €8 a share in cash, a 28.2% premium to Friday’s closing price. The bid is being made through Bluefin Bidco, which is ultimately owned by four senior executives who together hold about 23.7% of ICG shares. The offer has been unanimously recommended by the board but still requires shareholder approval and regulatory clearance.

The CEO of Fuels for Ireland said petrol, diesel and home heating oil prices could rise by a combined 35 cent per litre by January if the government reinstates fuel excise duty in September, raises carbon tax on budget night and increases the renewable transport fuel obligation from January 1. He said diesel wholesale prices have already jumped by more than 20 cent per litre in the past 2.5 weeks, with VAT still to be added. He also cited renewed Middle East conflict that has restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and pushed up insurance costs. Wholesale prices published daily by Platts feed through to the Irish market almost immediately, he said.

Fast-fashion platform Shein said in its first pre-IPO filing that U.S. revenue fell 14.3% year on year after the U.S. scrapped the de minimis tariff exemption and the EU imposed an added fee on low-value imports. It also reported a weaker operating margin and a sharply reduced expected IPO valuation of $40–$50 billion. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan are serving as joint sponsors for the Hong Kong IPO. The disclosure underscores the pressure that tighter cross-border trade rules can place on Chinese companies’ listing plans and on investment banks’ underwriting work.

SAP lowered its 2026 non-IFRS operating profit outlook to €11.8 billion–€12.2 billion, citing more than €100m of dilution from the AI-related acquisitions of Dremio and Prior Labs. The company kept its 2026 cloud revenue target unchanged at €25.8 billion–€26.2 billion. Second-quarter cloud revenue rose 24% year-on-year to €6.28 billion, while current cloud backlog increased 26% to €22.93 billion.

ECB policymaker Pierre Wunsch said the central bank could still raise rates again in July or September even after a temporary U.S.-Iran deal pushed oil prices sharply lower and eased energy-driven inflation concerns. He pointed to services inflation rising to 3.5% in May from 3% as a key risk, and said another 25-basis-point move could be warranted if price pressures broaden, in comments to Reuters. Markets see a higher chance of a hike in September or October, with the timing depending on data for non-energy inflation and wages.
