Ethereum Layer 1 Daily Transactions Reach Record 2.2 Million Amidst Average Fee Drop to $0.17

Ethereum processed a record 2.2 million daily mainnet transactions on December 31, according to Etherscan, while average fees fell to about $0.17—far below the $200+ peaks seen in 2022. Token Terminal also reported 8.7 million new and deployed smart contracts in Q4. The surge reflects improved network efficiency following the Pectra upgrade in May 2025 and the Fusaka upgrade in December, which raised the gas limit from 45 million to 60 million.
